<p>Ryuryukyo Shinsai (1764-1820)</p><p>Six <em>surimono </em></p><p>Edo period, 19<sup>th</sup> century</p><p><br></p><p>woodblock print, <em>surimono</em>, embellished with embossing, each signed <em>Shinsai </em>or <em>Shinsai ga </em>(Pictured by Shinsai), privately issued; each with collector's seal of Gerhard Pulverer to <em>verso</em>, and comprising:</p><p><br></p><p>- No.7, from the series Stories of the Hare's Exploits (<em>Usagi tegara-banashi</em>)</p><p>- Shirabyoshi dancer, from the series Six Comparisons of Fans (<em>Ogi awase rokuban no uchi</em>)</p><p>- Young woman and boy look up at broken kite stuck in willow vines, the kite depicting tiger and bamboo, embellished with metallic pigment</p><p>- Courtesan playing a <em>shamisen</em>, from the series Six Comparisons of Fans (<em>Ogi awase rokuban no uchi</em>)</p><p>- Bamboo: Two women and a child before an alcove (<em>tokonoma</em>) during the New Year’s celebrations, from the series The Three Friends of Winter: Plum, Pine and Bamboo (<em>Shochikubai</em>), circa 1810</p><p>- Two men beside horse and gnarled plum, embellished with metallic pigment</p><p><br></p><p>Horizontal <em>kokonotsugiriban</em>: each approx. 14 x 19.4 cm., 5½ x 7⅝ in. (the first, second, third, fourth and fifth)</p><p>Vertical <em>kokonotsugiriban</em>: 20.6 x 13.9 cm., 8⅛ x 5½ in.
